Kurt Brungardt is a bestselling, theater director, filmmaker. He focuses on developing stories and immersive projects that are inspired by true events, merge the personal and political, and the existential and the spiritual.

He has written 13 books on health, physical culture, and sports. Including the bestsellers:  The Complete Book of Abs (Villard/Random House), The Complete Book of Core Training (Hyperion/Hachette), Lesbian Sex Secrets For Men (Penguin), and The Running Revolution (Penguin). His 2007 feature article for Vanity Fair, “Galloping Scared,” was nominated for a Genesis Award. and optioned as a screenplay. His most recent books include, The Gentlemen of Aspen: The Untold Story of American Sports Dynasty (2022) and The Complete Book of Pickleball (Penguin 2024) released this spring.

He is the founder of the Parkinsons-Shakespeare Theater Troupe. The troupe just completed its third season (2024) with the production: Love Devised (based on Twelfth Night). Brungardt has directed over a dozen plays in New York, Los Angeles, and regional theaters. He is the founder of theater 4S in New York City, which focuses on new plays, documentary, and immersive theater. A long-time collaboration with playwright Raymond Shurtz, which includes Bohemian Cowboy (2012), which had an extended run at The Elephant Theater in Los Angeles, where it received rave reviews in the Los Angeles Times and was selected as the “Pick of the Week” by the L.A. Weekly. Other credits include, My Father’s a Cop, co-written by Jerry Dean and Brungardt, premiered in New York City (2019) and had an extended run at the Under St Mark’s Theater in the East Village and is now under development as a documentary series.

He is the creator of the multipart documentary series Undrafted, for SLAMonline, which started in 2012 and has produced and directed exercise videos, most notably, the Billboard Top 10 classic Abs of Steel for Men, and Action Sports Camp (a workout for kids), hosted by NBA All-Star and champion Sean Elliot.

He is a member of the Writers Guild of America (WGA), the Dramatist Guild, and the Authors Guild. He is represented by Creative Artists Agency (CAA) and William Morris Endeavor.
